If someone would have approached me in the fourth grade and asked me where I thought I'd be at 29 years old, my answer probably would have depicted a scene involving a husband, three children, horses and a Barbie corvette - in pink, of course. Yet here I am, approaching 30, without any of those things. In fact, my life is probably the complete opposite of what I, or anyone my age, would have guessed it would be. Though I have a successful career, have fabulous friends and family, and live in one of the most amazing cities in the world, I still have not conquered my ongoing battle with the scale.
When you live in a city that never slows, it's hard to take a step back and take inventory of your eating habits. Between juggling a full time career with an equally time consuming social life, it's often much easier to snag a slice of pizza between work and that fabulous happy hour that you just can't be late to. Two years ago, I found myself overworked and unhealthy. Having packed on a few more pounds than I fell comfortable carrying around, I sought the help of a co-worker and good friend to lend me some healthy eating tips and a brand new outlook on life.
By simply avoiding processed foods, incorporating healthy fats into my diet and completely eliminating sugar and complex carts, I quickly shed the excess weight I had put on and found myself fiil of energy. Of course, embarking on this journey meant sacrificing to an extent, but when asking my nutritional cheerleader (as I like to call her), if I could still drink on this diet, she responded with an answer that still blows my mind to this day. "Of course! Just drink champagne," was her reply. Upon further research, I quickly discovered that champagne was one of the lightest cocktails one could consume, with only 100 calories per glass. Plus, who doesn't feel fabulous sipping champagne? What better way to lose weight and look great while doing it. The Champagne Diet was born, and I soon found myself inundated with requests by friends and family members to teach them how to get on board with this revolution that quickly became not only a diet, but a lifestyle.
The Champagne Diet is a humorous memoir - often dry, sometimes bubbly and definitely sweet. This candid story tells tales of dieting, friendship, love and of course, champagne.
